Town of Moira receives $555,200.00 grant for salt storage facility

The Town of Moira is thrilled to announce that we been awarded $555,200.00 in New York State funding through the Water Quality Improvement Project (WQIP) grant program administered by the State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC). The Town submitted a project proposal to the grant program in 2023, with the assistance of Laberge Group, Albany, NY, to construct a salt storage facility near the town highway garage on County Route 6 to cover its exposed salt pile. The structure will protect groundwater and nearby drinking water wells. In an announcement made by Governor Kathy Hochul on February 15, 2024, we were one of 81 projects statewide that were awarded more than $146 million through the program.

We are greatful for those in the Town for their efforts this past year in submitting this project for consideration to the program, and especially thank Ms. Nicole T. Allen – A.I.C.P., Director of Planning & Community Development at Laberge Group, for all her expertise and assistance in developing and submitting the planned project on behalf of the Town.
