Earl, the Town Hall Cat

Earl

Meet Earl, our adopted and appointed Town of Moira TOWN HALL CAT.

By the power vested with the Town Supervisor pursuant to Resolution #5 of 2024, whereas the Town Board authorized and delegated to the Town Supervisor the powers and duties of day-to-day administration and supervision of all Town and special improvement district facilities and employees, the Town Supervisor adopted and appointed Earl as Town Hall Cat on February 9th, 2024.

When our Town was formed in 1828 separating from the Town of Dickinson, our founding fathers named the Town MOIRA, in honor of the Earl of Moira (Irish peerage title). To celebrate our Town's heritage, this handsome, lovable feline was named EARL upon his adoption.

His appointed duties are to be a good will ambassador (a skill of which he is extremely adept) of the Town to any and all visitors to the Town Hall, and to provide rodent deterrence and control to such premises until such time his services are no longer needed.

He shall serve the Town in his appointed role without compensation, in exchange for all costs pertaining to his medical care, well-being, sustenance, and day-to-day needs that will be borne by the Town Supervisor at his personal expense, and not be burdened on the taxpayers of the Town. In the event his appointment no longer serves the best interests of the Town, Earl will have a furever home at the residence of the Town Supervisor.

In the meantime, Earl lives a cat's life of luxury since his appointment. A big, warm, comfortable space to call his own and roam at will. All his needs attended to, and lots of company coming and going to give him all the affection he craves. No dogs to cramp his style, no cats for competition...he's now figured out in short order he rules the roost.

He truly has become Earl of Moira.
