Town of Moira begins process to convert to LED Streetlights

At its regular monthly buisness meeting held May 14, 2024, the Moira Town Board unanimously approved Resolution #107-2024 authorizing the Town Supervisor to submit a letter of commitment to National Grid to particiapte in National Grid’s Outdoor Lighting LED Conversion Program – taking advantage of an opportunity to enhance the lighting quality and achieve energy cost savings through a proactive conversion of our existing outdoor lighting luminaires to energy efficient LED luminaires in Moira’s Special Lighting District.

Town of Moira Special Lighting District

The Program provides an estimated $3,070.00 incentive to the Town to make the switch from current high-pressure sodium (orangy) streetlights to wattage equivalent LED’s. The Town has a total of 59 streetlights. In order to convert, the Town will pay an upfront cost of an estimated $1,321.00, based on National Grid’s residual net book value (NBV) for the luminaires to be removed. Once all the streetlights are converted, National Grid will provide the incentive, resulting in an estimated $1,746.70 rebate to the Town.

This conversion will result in an estimated electricity cost savings of $2,558.00 per year for the special lighting district, which can be passed on to district ratepayers. The conversion will also result in the Town earning valuable points toward other NYSERDA Clean Energy Community program funding.

Plan on about six months for the project to be completed, as this the program is a first come, first served basis.

PLEASE TAKE NOTE: This will NOT apply to streetlights in the Village of Brushton. This is a separate lighting district under the jursidiction of the Village of Brushton Board of Trustees.
